My Blueprint for an AMAZING Discovery Call

Here's a question I ask my students:  Do you relish your discovery calls (aka sales calls)? Do you walk away from the call feeling like you've been authentic, helpful, and honest? Do you feel confident and excited about the outcome? Are you presenting your services in a way that feels aligned WITHOUT undercutting your value? 

 

Bring YOURSELF into your sales!

Before you do any kind of discovery call you must first analyze your current story around sales and selling. You may have had an experience selling something or being sold something that felt icky, inauthentic, or desperate. I worked in furniture showrooms while in design school and I was a TERRIBLE salesperson. I had so much anxiety about selling!

I didn’t want to be sleazy. I wanted to be nice. I didn’t want anyone to feel uncomfortable and I didn’t want to feel uncomfortable. How can we avoid this? I have also had nightmarish experiences of being sold to where I felt so icky... all I wanted to do was run away. I felt trapped. I'm guessing everyone has had experiences like this.

 

So what is Authentic Selling?

The point of authentic selling is not to trap, but to set free. To open someone’s eyes to what is possible. This kind of selling comes from a place of service and love. And when you come from a place of love- everybody has free will to do what they please and no one feels trapped. I never wanted anyone to feel trapped on a call with me, and after many years and much trial and error, I finally mastered it. 

 

Recently, in my Design + Thrive program, I shared my holistic process for preparing for and hosting epic, authentic discovery calls with clients!

 

We all want calls that feel GOOD for both you and your prospective clients. Calls that feel helpful rather than sleazy. Calls that feel ALIGNED.
